Fundamentally, Rummy is a skill-and strategy-based game in which players form sets and runs from a deck of cards. The goal is to be the first player to combine all of your cards into sets, which are groups of three or four cards of the same rank, or runs, which are grrammy circaloups of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit. Players alternately draw cards from the discard or stockpile, trying to get better hands while simultaneously watching what their rivals do. Players must pay attention to other players' cards as well as their own hands in order to win at rummy. A keen sense of observation and strategic thinking are necessary for this. For example, it might be prudent to keep a card longer or even use it to stop an opponent's progress if they discard a card you believe they need for a meld.
