Classic Rummy's simple gameplay is one of its distinguishing characteristics; it is suitable for novice players while still providing depth for more experienced ones. Each player starts the game with a certain number of cards, rummy ludotypically seven or ten, depending on how many people are playing. After that, players alternately draw a card from the discard pile or the stockpile before tossing out one card from their hand. The game goes on until one player declares "Rummy" and wins the round by successfully melding all of their cards.
