You can learn a lot about your opponents' hands and modify your own strategy by keeping an eye on what they are picking up and discarding. An opponent may not be attempting a run in a given suit if you observe, fall pattior example, that they are discarding cards from that suit. This lets you concentrate on creating your own melds without worrying about being interrupted. Effectively managing your hand by setting priorities for which cards to keep and which to discard is another crucial tactic. If high-value cards don't add to a meld, holding onto them can be dangerous because if another player goes out, you could lose a lot of points.
