The goal of melding is for players to put cards together that can be used to form runs or sets. This could be selecting particular cards that are required to finish a set or run, or it could be rearranging the cards in existing melds to create new osatta gemenes. Players are able to strategically form melds to strengthen their hands & raise their chances of winning. In rummy gameplay, breaking melds created by opponents can also be a useful tactic. Players can learn about their opponents' melds and devise a plan to break them by observing how they are put together. In order to stop opponents from going out, this could entail discarding certain cards that they require, or it could entail strategically breaking up melds with jokers and wild cards.
